The Artist Tattooer
Samuel Mead
Handpoked tattoos for lovers of art, culture and life. Gently creating beautiful artworks on skin in calm, meditative spaces.
Tattooing as Fine Art
What comes to mind for you when you hear the word 'tattoo'? Do the associations that arise appeal to you? If the answer to the last question is 'No', but still, some part of you is interested in getting a tattoo, you're in the right place.

It has been said before that I make tattoos for people who don't like - or who think that they don't like tattoos.

My entire approach is based around a love and life long practice of fine art that has led me to this moment - where ink, on paper and on skin, are the primary mediums through which I portray my expression.
The studies I create on paper are preparatory drawings for the final artworks which are yet to be created on that living surface.
Sometimes, I create artworks directly on the skin in an entirely improvised way, with no prior drawing or planning involved. To see examples of these freehand improvised tattoos, check my 'tattoo gallery' in the menu.

Slow Tattooing

I tattoo using the handpoke method, a gentle technique more akin to classical art making modalities such as drawing and painting.

My art style reflects this connection to the great fine artists of the past with free flowing lines, intricate dotwork, evocative shapes and expressive compositions that call to mind Picasso, Matisse, Miro and Monet, among others.

It's only fitting then, that rather than working in a tattoo shop I choose a private setting - a clean, peaceful and beautiful creative space in central London.

When you choose to get a tattoo with me what you sign up for is not simply a transaction, but a collaboration - a journey into the creative process - one that will not only end with you as the lifelong bearer of a great work, but with inspiration, insight and the joy of art!
